Satellite providers have partnered with Swedish technology firm Satcube to equip journalists and humanitarian workers with small, portable terminals that link directly to its global network of geostationary (GEO) satellites. These portable systems allow users to coordinate missions, broadcast live, and transmit videos from anywhere on Earth.
The company is providing customers with the best of both worlds by combining multiple orbits into a single network that offers greater bandwidth, higher availability, and lower latency. The lightweight terminals can be up and running in a matter of minutes and offer broadband connectivity through GEO satellites, which orbit 35,000 kilometers above Earth. Because of their high altitude and fixed coverage footprint, GEO satellites can operate even when ground infrastructure is compromised, offering strong resistance to signal disruption.
In Ukraine, reporters and humanitarian organizations, such as the International Red Cross and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, rely on these systems to maintain communication links. Robert Mellberg, Sales Director at Satcube, said, “Even in regions that have been pummeled in aerial assaults, you can easily move around and get connectivity back to headquarters.”
Satellite provides a broader reliability profile through its expanding multi-orbit architecture. By ensuring multiple paths for traffic routing, the integration of GEO and medium-Earth orbit capacity reduces the possibility of outages caused by congestion or interference.
