The Potential of Non-Terrestrial Networks: Insights from Global Leaders

A new era of connectivity is being introduced by the integration of satellite and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs). Industry leaders including SES, NTT, Ericsson, Intelsat, Airbus, and others gathered at Mobile World Congress 2025 at the Satellite and NTN Summit to talk about this transformative shift. The conversation focused on how satellite technologies are combining with 4G and 5G networks to bridge connectivity gaps, improve emergency response capabilities, and unlock new revenue opportunities across consumer, enterprise, and IoT sectors.

The importance of this integration was highlighted by Jean-Philippe Gillet, SVP of Media, Mobility & Networks at Intelsat, who said, “The success is not to talk about satellite connectivity. The success is to talk about non-terrestrial networks fully integrated into a terrestrial network. And that’s really where the scale is coming from and where the difference is coming from.” The industry’s goal of developing a scalable, seamless network where NTNs complement traditional mobile infrastructure and eventually improve connectivity globally is emphasized by this vision.
