Choosing the Right Connectivity Partner in a Multi-Orbit World

The satellite industry has never offered more choices. New constellations, expanding coverage options, and increasing competition are reshaping how operators, service providers, and mobile network operators procure connectivity. According to Analysys Mason’s 2026 satellite industry predictions report, “Space is increasingly a strategic objective of governments and commercial entities worldwide, with more investment and ecosystem changes occurring on a seemingly daily basis.” Despite this rapid technological change, customer feedback remains remarkably consistent. Conversations with service providers, mobile network operators, and enterprise customers around the world reveal that while connectivity options continue to expand, organizations still place the greatest value on partners they can trust and that can adapt alongside their business needs.

Reliability Still Comes First

The excitement surrounding new satellite technologies often focuses on speed, capacity, price, and coverage. While these capabilities are important, when it comes to critical communications, customers continue to place reliability at the center of their decision-making process. For operators serving enterprise and government customers, supporting critical infrastructure, or extending connectivity into remote regions, network performance directly affects operational performance, customer satisfaction, and revenue generation.

Customer feedback places service quality and operational consistency at the top of the priority list. While providers may differentiate through orbit strategy and network architectures, customers ultimately need confidence that their services will perform as expected day after day. The deeper satellite services become embedded in critical communications environments, the more essential reliability becomes.

The Human Element Matters More Than Ever

Technology may enable connectivity, but people enable successful partnerships. Increasing network complexity and more specialized customer requirements have elevated support into one of the industry’s most valuable differentiators. Organizations are not simply purchasing capacity; they are looking for expertise, guidance, and responsiveness throughout the lifecycle of a service.

This trend is evident across customer feedback, where account teams, solution engineers, and technical support organizations are frequently highlighted as key strengths. Customers consistently point to knowledgeable teams that understand their business requirements, respond quickly to requests, and help solve operational challenges. Whether supporting a new deployment, troubleshooting a technical issue, or helping identify opportunities for growth, responsive support creates confidence and strengthens long-term relationships.

Customer feedback frequently highlights account teams, technical experts, and solution engineers as key contributors to long-term success. The distinction is significant. When technologies become easier to access and service offerings begin to look similar, customer experience often becomes the deciding factor in provider selection and retention.

This is particularly important as organizations evaluate connectivity across multiple orbit options. For many customers, access to satellite connectivity is no longer the primary challenge. Instead, the focus has shifted to determining how different technologies, networks, and services models can work together to support evolving business requirements. In this environment, providers that can offer technical guidance and practical expertise become the most valuable.

The Market is Raising Expectations for Flexibility

The growth of multi-orbit connectivity has also changed customer expectations. Organizations today evaluate providers across a wider range of technologies and business models, creating greater demand for commercial agility, faster response times, and more adaptable service offerings. Customers increasingly want the ability to scale services quickly, align commercial models with business realities, and access connectivity solutions that can evolve over time.

Customers are comparing providers across a much broader range of options than they did even a few years ago. They expect faster response, more adaptable commercial models, and greater visibility into available capacity and service options. For many service providers, the ability to respond quickly to changing customer requirements has become just as important as the technical capabilities behind the service.

This does not diminish the importance of established networks or longstanding provider relationships. Instead, it highlights the need for providers to combine proven reliability with a more flexible approach to doing business. Customers are looking for partners who can adapt alongside them as market conditions evolve and competitive pressures increase.

The Future Belongs to Trusted Partners

The connectivity landscape is becoming more complex by the year. New orbit strategies, expanding coverage options, and a growing mix of service models are giving customers unprecedented choice.  More options, however, do not necessarily make decisions easier. Organizations need guidance on how different technologies fit together and how connectivity investments can support long-term business objectives.

This shift creates an important opportunity for satellite providers. Customers are no longer evaluating providers solely on network performance or available capacity. They are also looking for experience, responsiveness, and a willingness to help solve business challenges as they emerge. The provider’s role is expanding from connectivity supplier to strategic advisor.

The satellite industry will continue to evolve as new technologies emerge, orbit strategies diversify, and competition intensifies. Yet customer priorities remain remarkably consistent. Dependable service builds confidence. Responsive support strengthens relationships. Flexibility helps organizations adapt to changing requirements. Together, these qualities create the foundation for lasting partnerships.

At SES, customer feedback continues to reinforce a simple principle: technology may enable connectivity, but people create lasting value. The providers that succeed in the years ahead will be those that pair technical excellence with a genuine commitment to customer success, helping organizations navigate complexity while achieving their broader business goals.
