Expanding Global Connectivity and Digital Inclusion Through Partnership

Significant advancements in enhancing global connectivity for underserved communities are highlighted by recent partnerships that will address the delivery of vital education and health services in hard-to-reach areas around the globe.

Vodafone and Intelsat Partnership for Expanded Satellite Connectivity

Intelsat is expanding the reach of its satellite network in partnership with Vodafone to provide stationary and on-the-go connectivity to places without traditional infrastructure. Through this collaboration, Vodafone can incorporate Intelsat’s Flex network, offering reliable connectivity options like Communications-on-the-Move (COTM) and Communications-on-the-Pause (COTP). For governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations operating in hard-to-reach areas, these solutions are essential for providing dependable internet access for mobile, temporary, or disaster-affected sites.

Additionally, Vodafone’s Foundation leverages this broader reach to assist with educational projects in Africa and Europe by providing tools for connected learning and equipping relief organizations and NGOs with vital communication tools in times of need. “The welfare of communities and their citizens is increasingly linked to the ability to access reliable connectivity services,” said Jean Philippe Gillet, SVP, Media, Mobility and Networks at Intelsat.

Empowering Change through Education in South African Prisons

Intelsat and Stellenbosch University have partnered to provide online education to female inmates in South African prisons. This initiative, named “Virtual School of Connectivity,” uses satellite technology to deliver educational content to prison facilities with limited internet access. The program aims to support rehabilitation by equipping inmates with skills and knowledge to help reintegrate into society post-release. Read more about this impactful project here

Enabling Education Via Connectivity

Access to vital educational and health services is made possible by an advanced satellite network, which bridges connectivity gaps, especially in isolated and underserved areas. By empowering communities with dependable internet access and supporting resilience in disaster-affected areas, these partnerships play a crucial role in achieving digital equality.

The importance of this connectivity will be showcased at AfricaCom 2024.
