The Mobile Office: From Field to Phone, Insights from CNH

To many, the mobile office is simply a laptop, phone, and Wi-Fi connection at a cafe or in the car or train. For farmers, the mobile office lies inside tractors and a variety of other connected machines made possible by a newly formed partnership between CNH and Intelsat.

Mark Kermisch, Chief Digital and Information Officer, CNH, explored this partnership, the opportunities it brings to farmers, and the idea behind the mobile office. “When you think about connectivity in farming, it’s typically the foundation that enables everything to work on the farm,” said Kermisch. “Farmers are in a mobile office, they aren’t attached to a desk, sitting where there is high speed internet access all day.”

Farmers need access to data that syncs information from vehicles, harvest maps, plant counts, and more to their mobile devices. While CNH previously covered 160 countries, it was only about 33 percent of the land mass that’s farmed. The new partnership with Intelsat will close those gaps with cloud-based connectivity solutions utilizing both LEO and GEO satellites to sync and share data instantly.

This accessibility to data will allow farmers to run their business more effectively with solutions that are easy to attain, as simple as “plug and play” technology that stands up to the unique environmental conditions required.
